Those Pier blocks are lousy. For low to the ground decks the main challenge is to get the framing level while still close to the ground. To get those pier blocks level and straight you will still need to dig and mix concrete to set the pier blocks securely in the ground.

A better way to do this is to get metal post bases for 4x material, anchor them w/ J-bolts in concrete in the ground, and lay the 4x6 girders horizontally in the post bases. To do this, use temporary bracing (wooden blocks) to set the girders level. Bolt the metal post bases to the 4x6 girders at each hole location, hang them off the bottom with the J-bolts pointed into the holes dug in the ground. Use short pieces of sonotube to create small concrete forms that bring the top of the concrete flush with the bottom of the metal post base. Once you have all the girders laid out in this manner all braced level with each other and fastened to the post bases, you are ready to pour concrete. The next day you can start framing the deck.

im adding a roof to the deck i built and would know if you recommend using pier block for the 4x4 post ill be using its an add on the a 5th wheel. so it needs to support itself. got any ideas?
