Low porch ceiling

I have a 1920s cottage and the ceiling of my covered deck is finished in beautiful, not replaceable, tongue and groove fir. The problem is that the ceiling is so low, maybe 7 feet at the most. It makes the deck feel squished and not very livable. Should I just tear it out and expose the joists and underside of the floor above. Would this be sacreligious? Does anyone have photos of what this might look like?

RE: Low porch ceiling

That wouldn't gain you any height. It may feel higher, but the exposed superstructure would be a negative IMO. Life isn't one big smooth journey.
