T&G Direction

I'm in the process of developing plans for a porch (16' x 24')that will have T&G Ipe decking. The contractor wants to put the planks down parallel to the house. Is this acceptable? My understanding is that they should run perpendicular to allow water run-off. How big an issue is this?

Installed corectley T&G ipe will drain going either way,thru the gap.

Back in the day of wrap around porches the ol boys
built in a lot of fall with the frame and ran the T&G materal perp because they built the floor like it was inside the house, very tight joints, Bad idea but it looked pretty cool for a while until the whole thing rotted out.They were thinking the water would run off.
You dont want the water to run off,you want it to drain down. J.
