UV is not the new way to go - I actually have no problem with UV as a supplemental system but if he actually said that to you then it makes me not trust his advice. Salt can increase the potential for damage to your pool components, and this is mitigated by proper bonding and grounding as well as the addition of sacrificial anodes to the pool. Most people asking your questions really just want to get salt water since they hear good things about it from their friends. Salt is great. Its easy to manage once you understand it is NOT maintenance free and it IS the exact same thing as chlorine. It is chlorine. If you want comfortable water and fairly easy pool maintenance then go ahead and get salt. Just be sure to balance your pool water always and get that sacrificial anode installed.

I am not fond of the Delta system for UV sanitation, but I do like Ozone Joe's. The system bypasses the pump to avoid drying out the pump. UV does not feel as good as salt water, but it is essentially bottled water like you would by at the grocery store. For any UV system, you need a chlorinator to handle the bacteria that the UV system will not kill. It is a small amount, though, and is not like swimming in a chlorine only pool
