| our plan doesn't call for one, however the gunite guy is recommending one - here's the stats:
with the coping, the step down onto the baja shelf will be 13.5 inches - the water will only be 9 inches deep .... anyone else have this? do you find a step necessary?
spraying on Monday, input needed.
thanks. |

| Most risers to first step with poured concrete on top are 13" (4" concrete, 3" to water, 6" water depth) so that is not greatly out of the ordinary. It is a large step, if you have anyone with any mobility issues you may want to add one. Doesnt have to be big, just a step. |

| I have also found that a step here and or at a deep end swim out to be a great place to set a step pump when the pool is closed and winterized. Typically, these steps are a couple inches below the tile line making them the perfect height for preventing rain from raising the water level in the pool when using a mesh safety cover or removing displaced water when a snow load presses down on a either a solid cover or mesh cover. The 1st step in the shallow end us usually right at the tile line. Step pumps with float switches may allow some water to reach the tile, usually its not enough to cause concern but I like the extra safety margin the swim out and baja shelf step provide. Scott |
