Here are a couple more photos. Pool Goes here. The Sandhill Cranes are right outside of our slider. They come up and knock for food. When the pool starts they won't know what to do.

I am a big fan of the simple and elegant pools with clean lines(heck, I have one myself)

In a pool like this, I think it is very important that you pick out the right materials.

What decking will you use?

What tile?

What plaster?

Combination water/fire bowls would look great with this design too.

Awesome looking neighborhood by the way.

I think you are going to have some water issues that will cost you more than you think to solve.

First is the high water table during construction.

Second will be what to do with the water after it rains and raises the pool water level.

You're going to need a fence or enclosure. I assume you're in Florida?

Thanks for your questions and comments. I will do my best to answer everything because I learn so much from you all.

Hear is an aerial view of the property.
areal view;

Our house is right in the center(two cars in the driveway, white vacant lot to the right) with the street on the south and the pond on the north.

Dawg: we havent decided on the tile yet. So far we are planning to match the deck with the existing lanai deck which is acrylic over concrete, like cooldeck. The plaster will be a pebbletec type finish like Sky blue or, because we are in Florida a Gem finnish like blue gem. Mrs jparkfire wants natural blue and I like a little darker than that. We had a white plaster finish on out last Houston TX pool; Kids enjoying Houston;

Scott: I hope there will be no problems with water. All of the PBs I interviewed said they had experience in this neighborhood and there are several pools around the pond, as you can see from the photo. We had the millenium flood last year (over 20" in three days)and the pond only went up a foot. The ponds are all connected by culverts to the Indian River which is about five miles away. Do you think I should address the water issue more directly? Should I have something in the contract to protect me?

The Pool will have an enclosure. The neighbors accross the pond build their pool without an enclosure but 6 months later added the screen. They said there was way too many bugs and creatures ending up in their pool. I could do something about the mosquitos but it is the creatures Like this I can do without.

RE: Viera Pool

jparkfire, we live in Jacksonville and had a screen installed for our pool. The property backs up to a preserve and we could not enjoy out pool at night because of the bugs. We love to entertain and grill out at night. The wife has named the grill area "Dolphin Bar and Grill" and she has named the screen room as the "Flamingo Lounge" Why have a pool if you cannot enjoy it 24 hrs a day. Look at our thread "Our New Pool Build in Jacksonville, FL"
I can't wait to see pics of your pool.

HTH, Thanks for your comment. I have been following your thread and have seen all of the pictures. I agree with you. Some say that the bugs only come out at night, but what's the fun if you have to go inside once the sun starts to go down and the bugs come out. It's not just the bugs it is all of the other creatures that end up in the pool and you have to fish them out.

How many lights should I have and where should they be placed? I am thinking that I need two in the pool, one over the steps and the other on the house side of the narrow end. Can I get by with one in the pool? If it wraps around the corner by the steps? Can it wrap around the corner?

 o
RE: Viera Pool

The only way light will wrap around a corner is if the walls are finished with mirrors. LOL. It would certainly be unique but I expect that that would be dangerous.

Will there be lighting in the enclosure?

RE: Viera Pool

I haven't planned any lighting in the enclosure. I suspected that the lights from the house and the Lanai would be sufficient to see my way around outside. Our Pool in Houston had a light but we never used it because it attracted so many bugs. With the enclosure we shouldn't have that problem.

The design looks great, it will be a great addition to your lot. Based on the "newness" of those houses I'm guessing you're west of I-95? We are right down the road in East Viera/Suntree. Good luck, ours was worth the wait!

RE: Viera Pool

jparkfire, you can always add lights later. I added twin 150 halogen flood lights in the dolphin bar and grill area and it does a good job when we are grilling and entertaining at night. The intellibrite light from the pool also does a great job giving a nice romantic glow during the nite. The lights from our screened in room does a great job lighting the pool area. Hope this helps.

RE: Viera Pool

Thanks for the comments. We are west of 95 and love our neighborhood. I was thinking about putting hooks in the screen framing so I could, later string party lights. Then someone. close to me. reminded me that electricity and pools did not mix well. DUH! I like the ambiance of low level lighting like the light filtering out from the house and the lanai and the pool light pictures I have seen on this forum. For some reason I was thinking about LED lights as being strips of light cord. the photos I have seen show sonething much different, more like a flood light.

I don't want the light facing the house and I would like the steps illuminated a bit. Any suggesion aboud something subdued to light the steps from under the water?
