Hot tub - attached or detached?

| Hello,
We're in NJ, and i have a question. For those of you with attached hot tubs, does the fact that you close your pool down cut down on your usage since the hot tub is also closed? Do you regret not keeping it separate?
I'm on the fence as to whether or not to attach it or not.
thx for any info..

| Well Although I live in Florida, I wonder if they do it different up there.... My hot tub is attached and I love it. If there is a problem with the pool, I throw a couple of valves and the bodies of water become completely separate. But every day when I get home after a long day, the spill over has the most soothing sound.... now if I could just get my wife to stand there in a suit with a cocktail waiting for me...... Life would be just perfect! |

Are spill-over spas heated? When a raised spa has spillover to the pool, I would imagine that it would be a waste of energy to have this heated water spill into the cooler pool water (and I'd also imagine that it would take additional amounts of energy to keep the spa water heated in this fashion). Are the pools with attached heated spas normally heated as well? Are some of these spas actually just regular pool temp with therapeutic jets and no heat? Or, is there a feature where you can control the spill-over feature (on/off) when the spa water is being heated? Thanks. |

| I am in Mississippi. I have an existing hot tub, which I do not plan to get rid of when my pool build starts next week. The hot tub is on my deck, right off my back porch. Easy (and fast) to get into and out of, especially when the weather is colder. We have a tv mounted on the porch wall, and my kids like to watch TV while in the hot tub (sometimes my husband and I do, too). My pool is going to be further out in the yard, and I wouldn't relish the walk (or run) back to the house in the winter. But that's just me...and I live in the Deep South, where it isn't even "really" cold that often. |
