Flagstone sealant - pool outdoor application

I have a brand new pool with 2# thick flagstone coping, and I am looking for a top quality "breathable" sealant I can apply myself to compete with the "industrial" brands that some contractors say I cannot buy because I am not "licensed" to use. These products carry a 5 year warranty by the contracted applicator and typically do not need re-application for 8-10 years. Application cost is about $600-700 for contractor to do. Any information, including pointing me to any already in existence, would be greatly appreciated.

We also have a new pool with 2" flagstone coping. We decided to go with a SWG so I was also concerned with salt eroding the flagstone. I did a lot of research on sealants and found a product produced by DuPont called StoneTech Professional Salt Water Resistant Sealer. I purchased 1 gallon and I had at least ½ gallon left after applied it to the coping. It says it will last 3 years but time will tell. What I liked about this product was it didn’t change the appearance of the stone. Some would say it’s a little pricy but if it lasts as long as the say it will be worth it.

Thanks very much. I have used this site do do part of my research. We have a salt pool also. I had one guy tell me we should powerwash flagstone coping first if it has been longer than 30 days since completed due to salt contaminants. Is this consistent with your information?? Also, how did you apply.....brush, roller, spray, etc? Thanks.

Yes, I powerwashed the flagstone prior to applying the sealer. As for applying the sealer I took my time and used a brush. If your pool isn't finished and it's concrete, be sure you don't spill/splatter any of the sealer into the pool.
