We have done it several times. I like to hire a concrete cutting company to cut the concrete with a Saw...I would replace the coping or change it to a flagstone coping...The pipe should be low enough so removel of the concrete should not be a problem. You may want to replace the skimmers depending on there condition and age if you are going to replace the liner also..

A picture is worth a thousand words. It is this way on one whole side and the other side is starting to degrade now too.

Start with the link below ...It looks like the concrete was setting up to fast or it had alot of calcium in it...I'm so sorry for your trouble..
