1963 pool resurrection

dumbcluck

Hey everybody, has anyone here ever had any experience in bringing a filled in pool back to life?
We have a pool in our backyard that was filled in with dirt and trees by previous owner and we are considering making it swim able again?
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey dumb cluck...I'm considering resurfacing a 1931(!) pool that is in sort of a grotto environment. I've been told by one pool guy that you have to build a new wall over the existing pool wall about one foot deep. Have you heard this? When I first moved in I tried to fill up the existing pool but it leaked like a sieve and the pool was unweilldy and large, so we couldn't be sure where it was coming from. We filled it with dirt and put a large pond in the center instead. All these many (18) years later, I now want to resurrect at least part of that old pool. I can definitely use two of the old walls. Does anyone on this forum have opinions on how to properly resurface an existing pool?

Still working on it. Coping and tile going in this week.
Zz it would depend on how the structure looks. You would likely need an engineer to sign it off depending on your location.
Did you punch holes in the bottom for drainage? If not it is probably pretty swampy down there unless it really leaks hard.
Anything is possible. With our pool the structure was ok. We just had to reshoot and box in the bottom holes with new rebar.
It should hold up well and will be like a brand new pool when completed.

Great job, I'm wondering what state you're in? As a pool plumber for 22 years the Eq set is all the plumbing the customer sees. The advancement in Eq skyrocketed the last 10 years vs plumbing techniques. Great skate pic wish I would have found this in the beginning. Well enjoy it.

Had a thanksgiving party here kids loved the pool. Everything went great. At the end of the night I went to switch back from spa top pool more and can't get the pump to prime.
Possible air leak on skimmer pipe.
    Dang.

Great transformation from a prior hole to a new hole. Noticed the 10 month gap in posting when the empty hole appeared. Glad you came back and kept this one going all the way. Enjoy the satisfaction of your new recreation.

Weir door was installed wrong. All is good now.
10 month gap was the "trying to convince my wife to do this" period of time. She wasn't initially on board.
Happy now though. Kids love it.
