| Hello, I have a question about whether or not a fiberglass pool set in gravel needs a concrete surround (about 2 ft) around it for coping or if one can use 8910 stone and a mudbed for the coping. Does the concrete add to the structure or this just for ease of installation? I have been told both and do not know who to believe. Right now it is just gravel up to the lip of the pool.
Thank you for your assistance! |

| If there is any chance the water table will rise above the bottom of the shell, yes it's needed. It should also have a sump or dry well under it. You never know when the pool may need lowering or emptying. The added weight of a concrete ring, properly tied with rebar helps keep it from becoming buoyant to point of lifting. Think about it for a moment. You have essentially sunk a boat in the back yard. Scott |
