Too much salt or too little salt will compromise how much chlorine you're making. Or not making.

Having a lot of rain? Hot and sunny? Any algae at all will eat up your chlorine faster than you can imagine.

I thought my generator wasn't working either and when I called my pool guy to tell him, he told me everyone was calling him saying the same thing. My problem? Hot, rainy, weather. I got a very slight algae bloom. Once I got rid of that and got back on top of water balance, all was right with the world again.

I've been running my SWG at 50% the last couple days and my chlorine reading is still high. I haven't put any shock or liquid chlorine in the pool in a couple weeks so I know it's working. But if you would've asked me a month ago, I'd've sworn my Intellichlor was broken.

Make sure you dont' have any algae. That's where I'd start. Have you tried any liquid chlorine?

Have you cleaned it? They should be cleaned twice a year. Bioguard makes a great cell cleaner, or you could use muriatic acid. We clean ours twice a year, once on the 4th of July and at the end of the season. We found this out our second year also when ours began not working. The installer never mentioned it.

Some pool stores have equipment that can check if your SWG is working or not. I forgot to mention that.

My chlorine production is also low. My service tech told me I need to add stabilizer. I have been set at 65. That said, you will see I started a thread questioning whether a salt cell that has a slow leak at the prongs is normal. My tech tells me he sees it often. Hmmm, I haven't seen it leak in the past three years... I'm not sure if that would affect chlorine production or not.
