Does size really matter? (talking about pool vacuum heads)

Now that I have your attention...

I have a fairly standard 14 inch vacuum head for cleaning my 40' x 20' pool. It occurs to me that I could cut down the cleaning time if the vacuum head was significantly wider, which would require fewer cross-pool strokes to cover the whole enchilada. Net searches come back with a 19" weighted head for about $43 with tax and shipping and a 21" weighted head for about $50 with tax and shipping.

Anyone have experience shoving around a head of that width? Does it really make the job go quicker or does the increased surface area mean reduced vacuum on the concrete (meaning that you wind up having to go back over the same area twice)? Do you get cleaning fatigue with maneuvering around the extra weight at the end of a long pole? And if I'm going to go big, are there any downsides to getting a 21 inch versus a 19 inch?

Thanks,

Nick in Palm Springs
