pentair minimax heater not heating

I have a Pentair Minimax heater model 400. The pilot flame is good. The burners are not coming on. A month ago they would come after intially starting it up but after an hour it would go out and not relight. Now it only works if you jump out the gas valve but only works for a while then goes out. The cartridge filters are clean as far as I know. The pressure switch works, it goes out when you shut off the pump. Maybe the electronic thermostat is the problem? Any suggestions? Bill

Millivolt version. I assume so as you say you jumped the valve.

You'll need to have the pilot generator checked as it may not be sustaining a strong enough flame. That's the first step. These heaters do cycle on/off a lot but not after an hour. Usually every few minutes when the usual suspects are bad.

Pull the wire off the left terminal of the valve and check the power coming from the pilot generator. It should be ~500mVdc.

You should use a digital multimeter that is set to either 2vdc (pref) or 20vdc.

When you jump the valve, does it fire and go out when you remove the jumper?

When I jump it it stays on for a while by itself. It goes out before it reaches temp. and never comes back on.

I have the exact same problem with my 250. :( I have had my local pool guy out twice now looking at it. Odd, the exact same issue. HELP PLEASE!
