Baja/Tanning shelf pics and dimensions?

| I know there are so many beautiful pools on this site, but if anyone has any close-up pictures of their tanning/baja shelf and steps I would LOVE to see them. Also, if you could give the dimensions of your shelf that would be great, too. I am trying to find a way to have a nice size shelf and steps without it taking up half of my pool! Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you! |

| How can I resist with your name... my son's name is Mason ! LOL :) My shelf is 17' x 9' at it's widest points... & our stairs kinda tie into it so it's on one side on the pool.. It works well.. no one has to move if someone wants to go for a dip....plus there's plenty of room for chairs... I have three in now and the kids still have room to play... It's so nice to sit in there with your feet in the water and not have to be in a bathing suit... Love that shelf !

| Our pool isn't finished but here is a picture of the tanning ledge. It is 12' wide and goes from 4' to 7' along the curve. There are other pictures at the link below.

| Here's a pic of ours:
If I had it to do over again I would leave it just as big, but push it outside of the main pool shape as it takes up too much of the swim lane from end-to-end. One or two people can swim, but when we get into the 3+ person races the shelf is in the way :-) |

| I love your shelf, Moocat! I would make it as big as possible. Ours is 8x9', I wish it were at least 10x11'. Two loungers fit on it but there is no wiggle room. I love the 18" depth, you can sit on chairs without getting wet or on the loungers with the water lapping at your sides.

| LOVELY baja/tanning shelves! I am designing mine right now and it is probably one of my favorite parts. Thank you all for sharing your shelves. Call me crazy, but I think it adds so much character to the pool. I saw that Michelle's is 18", are most of yours 6 inches deep? We are having a couple of "cheap bubblers" that the pool guy is going to rig up for us, so I can't go much deeper I don't think. Mine will mainly be for kids but maybe I will be allowed in at some point. :-) Love all the pictures! |

| I forgot to mention ours is 9'-0" x 4'-6". It is 6" deep with a bubbler. As you say, with a bubbler you can't go much deeper or there won't be much of a fountain effect. I like laying on the shelf to sun sometimes. One of these days I'll get a waterproof pillow so my ears aren't underwater when I do that. It makes a great jumping off spot for the kids, it's also nice for the kids to use to climb onto their pool ride-on inflatables before pushing off into the deeper water. |

| Tresw - Thank you so much for the extra info - I need all the help I can get. All of your suggestions about the kids really helped me, because our kids are 4, 5, and one coming on Monday! They will love the shelf, I didn't have one on my first pool. Right now I have ours at 8' wide and 6' deep, the shelf will be 6" in water with a couple of bubblers I hope. My pool isn't going to be very big, so I didn't want to eat any more of the swimming part. They are coming to excavate on Monday - same day as my induction! Your whole backyard set up is amazing - it is truly a dream! I am going to try and post some pics when we get started, you are an inspiration! |
