My wife and I are hoping to string some LED or halogen lights over the fence around the circumference of our pool. The fence is aluminium with two inch posts. Our tentative plan is to add 10-12' poles (probably aluminum) every third fence post and hang guy wires between these posts. We'll hang solid outdoor string lighting along the guy wires, scalloping them down to about 7' high in the center. What would be the best way to attach the poles to the fence posts? (i.e. is it possible to do it without digging?!). Perhaps we could even slide one inch square aluminum tubes down the existing 2" fence posts.

Has anyone attempted something similar? Foresee any major pitfalls?
