Stay away from R.A.Y's Pool Plastering, Los Angeles

Stay away from this company. They caused serious water damage under our house. Clearly their fault. They refuse to pay or clean up the damage. I have filed a complaint on their contractor's license. They say they have filed a claim with their insurance company but refuse to give me a claim number, and nobody from their insurance company has contacted us.

There were bad signs in the middle of the job but I was too far in to find another company. The owner, Ramon, never showed up when he was supposed to, he would show up unannounced and walk into our backyard, he never came through on giving me addresses to look at the finish we were considering. Showed up a day late and then 8 hours late that day for the last part of the job (the acid wash, which caused the damage). On and on. A bad company, a terrible experience.

(Yes, they do punctuate the company name in that strange way, R.A.Y's)

A good pool contractor is hard to find. Most of us are on tight budgets, and we get estimates, but the best companies charge a lot more than people like RAY's. So we go with the cheapest bid, and then we are sorry.

Trust me, I know. I did it! Our dude walked out on 10 jobs the same day, didn't pay his subs, and they were all knocking on my door. I should have went with California Pools or something like that. Yes, they charge more, but you do get what you pay for.

We turned our guy into the Contractor's licensing board, and we all had to split the money which didn't near cover the damage he caused.

Next time, I will pay for quality, and not pinch pennies. Our little adventure cost us triple what we would have paid for a reputable company.

Lesson learned!

Yes, I should have taken my own advice: Go with the highest bid; it'll be cheaper in the long run.

This guy is licensed, and came from a recommendation. His work was okay but his communication and dealing with a problem are terrible.
