New Pool in New York (Putnam County / Westchester County)

Hi, everyone. We are looking to get a pool so have been searching around the internet to get as informed as possible. There's lots of information out there but not much relative to pool builders in my area. Can anyone recommend quality builders (and reasonable!) in this area? We would like someone that can design the surrounding area (pool patio, connection to existing patio) as well. We've come across Anthony & Sylvan (many years building concrete, now building Trilogy fiberglass as well but cannot find any experiences online about the office that serves my area but have seen negative ones for other offices), Florida Concepts (20 years building Viking fiberglass only), and Albert Group (only 6 years building Leisure Pools fiberglass but started with doing patios so brings a bit of both experiences to the table)

Also, we haven't decided on concrete or fiberglass but are leaning towards fiberglass as from what we have read, they require less maintenance. We'd love to have a pool but don't want to be married to it (we both work). That being said, I can't help to think that the fiberglass pools are a "step down" from the concrete pools. I've also seen a lot of things on the internet about people having pools that form minor cracks, or gel coats that have worn and can't be matched properly during re-application. These things worry me about going fiberglass. Although there are a lot of people that swear by them so I am hoping it will turn out fine. What are people in this area getting?

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Central Jersey here...

We installed fiberglass last year. I would never have thought of installing anything else. You'll probably pay more for a fiberglass pool, but you'll save both on maintenance and chemicals.

We've got an 18' x 37' fiberglass, and for two years in a row... $49 gets us crystal-clear water all season. What little algae there was trying to cling to the fiberglass when we opened the pool a few weeks ago was absolutely gone with a quick brush-off. Try that with any other types of pools...

It all depends on the quality of the installer, as you probably know. Installing a pool is a one-time thing, and you want it done right, NOT for the cheapest price. We set a budget, and overall, we came in right under the budget, and have had zero problems in the two years we've had it.

Hope this helped a bit. Best of luck to you!

    Jerseypool,

Thanks so much for the response. I think I am finally becoming more comfortable with the fiberglass. Who may I ask did you use to build your pool and what pool manufacturer did you get? Also, is your pool 18' or 16'? I am seeing that 16' is as wide as they go. Photos would be appreciated too! Thanks for the help!

Our installer was Seasonal World, in Clarksburg, NJ (right up the street from Great Adventure). They use four different fiberglass manufacturers, including the one we wanted: San Juan Pools, as they're one of the top manufacturers around. They're based down in FL. The model we chose was the Stardust (you're correct, it is 16' wide). I have plenty of photos on my home computer, but here's a vid of their installation of our pool:

That's very funny - I caught your video during my "research". Your pool is beautiful. I can't imagine watching the pool being lifted over my roof!

    Thanks again for the help.

Hopefully someone in my neck of the woods can help out with advice on a quality installer.

    Hi troy100
I live in lower westchester and I am considering a fiberglass pool also. I only got a quote from Floridia concepts on a Viking pool. I'm still on the fence. Did you go fiberglass and if so with who?

    Hi all,

Has either troy100 or jodi1224 built a fiberglass pool? I am considering getting one and don't know where to start.

We Love Ken at Florida concepts and for 7 years been enjoying our Fiberglass pool with no complaints at all! Salt system is also the way to go with low maintenance and low cost!!
