Algae/Moss on Heat Pump Fins

Hi All,

We have a Pentair UltraTemp 120 that's been in service for a few years now. I've noticed the air coil fins have a thin green layer of algae, moss or whatever grows where it is moist 10 months out of the year. Pentair says to hose off the coil once a year, but this stuff doesn't budge with a hose. I've heard mixed reviews about using a foaming cleaner, with some claiming that it eats away at the aluminum fins. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get rid of this stuff?
Thanks!

Try some bleach leave it on for a bit then hose it off...

HVAC suppliers sell special liquid cleaners to clean the aluminum fins on a refrigeration compressor. Probably appliance equipment parts supply would also have it for greasy dirty compressors as well.
