I saw on Fixer Upper on HGTV the other night where they used thin brick pavers that they put with thin seton a walkway. And then they left some of the mortar on the paver to make them look a little messy...which some people may not like! But it was beautiful! They also did it on the floor of an indoor room. Looked really easy. Just an option! We are going to try it on our back porch.

I live in FL and that's what they do here. if you have an existing concrete or cool crete deck they will install thinner pavers right on top of the old deck. i'm re-doing mine and that's what all 3 companies wanted to do. I have opted to not do that and instead have travertine tiles installed. the tiles will go right to the pools edge so no coping/bull nose pieces are required. the image i've shown is what i'm hoping to do. as for being able to withstand cold winters, I can't see why not but I would check with a local deck builder.
