dolphin pool cleaner question

I just bought this dolphin diagnostic off ebay. At first it was not working that great, and I realized from reading the on-line manual that I had the bag in wrong.

Now that I straightened out the bag, it is working better, but still not climbing all the way up the sides like it should.

It says not to run it in cold temperatures, so I wonder if it would work better if it got warmer? I'm in GA so it's been in the 50's and 60's. The water might be a bit colder.

Also, it says in the manual to "lock" the handle in an upright position. I can not seem to get the handle to lock. I can change the position but it does not "lock". Does this matter?

It just does not seem to be cleaning as fast as I'd hoped. Then again, I have a fairly dirty pool. But my old baracuda cleaner could have cleaned faster than this. Unfortunaly, the old cleaner got clogged easily by the acorns, twigs, and other debris which gets in the pool from the large number of trees near the pool.

Also, an acorn occasionly gets caught in the machine (not the suction part, but the edge where the "track" or yellow moving rolling rubber thingie is, causing the robot to work less efficiently until I take the acorn out.

Also I notice when it runs over a spot, it gets some of the debris but not all. There is a very thin layer of sand/dirt on parts of the floor and it picks that up, but leaves a little of it. Is this normal? Maybe my pool is just too dirty and I need to keep running the dolphin. It will eventually clean the pool, but I've run it for over 3 6 hour cycles and it's not even halfway done.

If it matters, I have a vinyl pool, and it's fairly large (9 foot deep and about 40 ft long). It is a salt system. I have not turned the pump on yet this year. I am just running the robot to try to clean it up a little before turning on the pump. The water looks blue and just a little cloudy, but it does not look bad other than needing a good vaccuum w/the dolphin. The water will clear up once I get the pump running.

Any input on the dolphin would be appreciated!!!!!

Cathy, Sorry i am not answering your question. I just saw you were from Georgia too as I am. What part? I have a liner pool as well. Mine has been open all winter. We have a Polaris 380. It cleans pretty well. I also have a salt system and love it. Just saying hello....I am in Flowery Branch up 985

Cathy, My pool is fiberglass. 20'X40' and my dolphin cleans great. I do have a problem with leaves and normally use a leaf vacuum first. Large amounts of heavy debris does seem to cause problems. I added a link below for the leaf vacuum,it will work fine on your acorns. My dolphin climbs the walls and goes up the steps. Do you have the remote control? Thats how I set the peramiters for how it cleans. The only problem I have with my dolphin is when I lift it out of the water it drops a small amount of debris.

Good Luck, Mark

P.S
I live in Louisiana and have used it in all weather and water temps without any differance in cleaning. I also use a salt generator

Thank you I have that leaf vaccuum already.

My dolphin is cleaning better today just not 100%. I guess I'll need to run it for a few cycles. But once all the dirt is out I shouldn't have to run it as often.

No I don't have a remote since I got the basic version. It was $480 refurbished on ebay. The ones w/remotes were a lot more. Maybe when the price goes down next year I'll get one with a remote and sell this one.

I was just wondering if it should go all the way up the sides but I guess I'll take it to the pool store since they will test it for free in their pool.

I am in Marietta.

One thing I do to clean my dolphin filter bag is put it in the washing machine on a delicate setting about once a month, seems to really clean it out.

I noticed it is very dirty so I think I will do the same.

Have you been able to locate an inexpensive source for Dolphin Diagnostic Automatic Pool Cleaner parts? Even a parts list would be helpful in understanding how the unit works.

Smartpool, Inc, the maker, has not been too helpful.

I just purchased a new Dolphin. It's been much slower than my 10-year old AquaQueen.

I am bumping up this thread -- just in case (I found it googling for doplhin parts)
You can call the manufacturer - Maytronics and they will locate a distributor in your state for you. They do not sell parts direct. 888.365.7446
