Pentair Pool Filter Drain plug

I don't even have the bond coat on the pool yet after a remodel and I cant even get to the drain plug of the filter...

My previous filter was a Pentair Clean & Clear that was 16 years old, so I decided that it was a good filter and I purchased the same kind...

Only problem is that they changed the configuration of the drain plug from the side to the bottom. Who's brainy idea was that?

Before I could just use the blade of a big screw driver to unscrew the drain cover and now I can't even get my hands in there to grab it, use a socket or a wrench.

How do you remove the drain plug? Is the plumbing incorrect and should the drain be facing the edge of the concrete pad and not next to the pipes?

Any help would be appreciated... Thanks
