Beyond The Call of Duty

Our late 2008 pool build is documented here:

Linky Thing: Leonardsmalls Pool Build

but this thread is about what has happened recently between us and our PB, Pearland Pools.

About 2 months ago I sent this picture:

to our PB along with the explanation that the sides of the spillover never seemed to dry out completely.

About a month ago they came out and found that the problem in the spa was the result of a leak in the grout line between the tile and the flagstone cap of the spillover. They sawed out the grout line and redid it ... and the "always wet" spillover was no more. While the PB was here I also pointed out that a section of the pool deck seemed to be separating and raising from the existing flagstone patio.

After they discussed options with their decking subcontractor they came back out and broke out the entire pool deck and replaced it.

They poured the new deck a couple of weeks ago. Earlier this week, after it cured sufficiently, they resurfaced it with Kool Deck.

and today they repainted and recaulked it.

Keep in mind, our pool was completed over a year ago. Although I did express a concern about the deck separation, there was NO push on my part. It's sure nice to have a PB who believes in doing things right.

High praises to both of you for working it out!! It's not easy on you having it all dug up again...and certainly not easy on the PB!!

Thanks for sharing!

Wow,

The PB stories we like to hear.

And I bet you tell everyone you know about it.

Cheap advertising if you ask me.

I would not call replacing that much decking cheap.

I do post about it ... both here and on Trouble Free Pools - because I want people to know how well we've been treated.

This, my internet friends, is how a QUALITY company operates.
Leonard, I don't know your builder personally but everything I've heard about their organization has been extremely positive.
Congrats on the awesome repair!!!

See ya,
Kelly

Leonard,

How awesome to have a great PB that stands by their work! We are just starting our second pool build after a horrible first experience. I certainly hope this project goes more smoothly! Anyway, I have been driving myself crazy over waterline tile and coping. I absolutely LOVE your choices and hope you don't mind if I "copy cat". We are also considering spray decking. In my area the product is Sundek. I'm a little leary and was hoping you could give me your thoughts and opinions of the spray deck products.
Thanks, Kelli

to-the-beach,

I'll check with my PB to see what they use. The sprayed pool deck was only in place for a year but we had no problems during that time. In the 6th pic from the top (above) you can see that we have a section of pea gravel deck that was in place before the pool. This area is where I fry turkeys:

and smoke dead cow:

In the summer it is impossible to stand on the pea gravel without shoes. The spray deck is very comfortable with bare feet.

I heard back from the PB. They use a spray deck product from SGM (Southern Grout and Mortar)
