Freezing of Pool Surface...is it a problem?

Hi all,

I have an inground vinyl liner pool and we are experiencing an unusual cold snap here in the Seattle area. The pump is running 24x7 on freeze protect, so I'm not too worried about pipes freezing, however, the pool surface is freezing pretty quickly. I've been breaking up the ice every 4 hours or so but we're headed out of town at the end of the week and there will be one more night down to 20 degrees when we're not around.

Seems like most people don't worry about the surface freezing on a vinyl liner as they are used extensively in the midwest. Am I just being paranoid, or should I continue to break up the ice? Temps will be in the teens for two more nights, then the 20's on Friday. By Saturday we should be out of the freeze for good.

Thanks!
