Yes. The roots grow everywhere and as wide as the branches are and deep. They can impinge on pipes, pool floors and hoppers behind the liner.

They can also lift the decking.

I have never seen tree roots damage a gunite or concrete pool.

In most soil conditions maple roots are on the surface and if the patio has a good gravel base the risk is less. As Scott said they will grow everywhere and generally follow the path that leads them to water and oxygen. 1 1/2 feet is too close for any tree looking forward.
