I would expect that to be fine given that most loungers leg's aren't that far apart and loungers typically are that wide either. You can, of course, turn the loungers sideways, facing face to face rather than side by side. Do you need more than 2 loungers?

Bear in mind, I don't build pools, just fix them. The builders that participate here might have a differing view, in which case, I will have learned something new.

I'm not a builder, but maybe look at the dimensions on some of the loungers you want. I have some I've been stalking online (for them to go on sale) and they fold flat to 72 inches long. If those were yours, you would have to get out of the pool to navigate around them. It depends on how many loungers you want to fit, too. We are only two people but often have friends and family over, so I want four loungers in a row on the far side of my pool (we don't have a tanning ledge, this is just on the decking).

It is likely you wouldn't want the lounger exactly perpendicular to the water, though, as you may be tanning (following the sun) or might have a preferred view at a diagonal one way or another. We want to have our decking on the far side of our pool expanded so that we can place loungers there, but we would either put them straight on perpendicular to the water or tilt to one side so that I'm not looking at our driveway which is on one side of the pool. I burn, so I'll need room for a big umbrella, too. I also need to be able to navigate all the way around the lounger to move it so the sun isn't in my eyes. Or if I want to pass sunscreen to the person three loungers down the way... or whatever. You get the idea.

Think about how you might want to use it and I bet you will have your answer!

Our pool, being built now had the tanning ledge sized around ours 2 wide loungers the matching table. It is 10 x 10 for 2 with room for some of the grandkids to sit around in the 9" water.
