How old is the coping?

They are fairly easy to replace if you are doing just a few. It's kind of unusual to see freeze damage on coping brick. Freeze damage normally appears as dime or quarter size flakes that have popped off the surface.
You might look at the joint behind the brick where the concrete and the coping meet. There should be an expansion joint between the coping and the concrete around the entire perimeter of the pool. Movement in this area could be a source of the problem.

Given there is no expansion joint between the deck and the coping, golfgeek's movement theory certainly holds a significant contributory amount of cause potential.

As for freeze damage with brick, it isn't that unusual if the brick isn't freeze rated. Happens by me, usually spec'ed by uneducated sales folk.

The pool is 6 years old. I'd say at least 60% of the bricks have cracking. I'm sure the entire thing will have to be replaced. As for the brick not being freeze rated that's news to me. I guess I just assumed it would be. I do know from looking at the installation pics that the bricks aren't solid. They have hallow sections. Don't know if that has any relation to the freeze rating. See pic below.

How big of a job is it joing to be to repair this?

Before worrying about replacing them, you need to find out why it happened. I vote for not having an expansion joint between the two disimilar materials.
