In the US, Whirlpool is best known for appliances such as washers and dryers, dish washers, refrigerators, etc...

Many of these devices are rebadged from other makers with slight differences. I would not be at all surprised if Whirlpool did the same thing with your friend's controller.

If your friend (or you on his behalf) could join and post some pictures of the equipment, post model numbers and any other pertinent information, we might be able to help him.

Caveat, I have no idea about these people, or the reconditioned parts they are offering, just the results of a Google search for MEI.

Your link turned out to be a useful source for these circuit boards, they told me that this board looks in good condition
and could be repaired for not more then $ 200. They also have new one's for $500.00
