Paint on vintage cast iron sink

I scored an exact duplicate of the 1940's wall hung sink in my laundry room that a former tenant ruined. It's in great shape for it's age, but the previous owner(s) were really bad painters and slopped paint all along the wall edge and blobs here and there. Since the finish is in beautiful shiny shape, I don't want to ruin it by using anything too aggressive on the old porcelain. What are some options? I don't want to soak it in water because the unfinished wall edge will rust. Thanks!
