Electric tankless hot water

Posted by little_e (My Page) on

I was wondering if anyone has an electric hot water on demand system and if so how do you like it? I have a traditional gas hot water tank but I've had a few issues with back venting and I have little kids and am thinking about something safer.

Any feedback on this type of system?

Thank you

RE: Electric tankless hot water

Yes, electric tankless here, 8 years. Works nicely for me.

Retrofitting electric tankless from gas traditional is not so easy. A properly-sized, whole-house electric tankless requires a 240 volt circuit, and can pull 100 to 180 amps at full output capacity depending on the size of the unit. Older homes may not have that much capacity available on the circuit panel, require extensive rewiring.

Gas tankless likewise requires a higher-capacity gas line than gas tank.

Electric tankless requires no venting, though, and can be installed pretty much anywhere not exposed to freezing temps.
