correct pipe set up?

It seems our kitchen pipes were done by a do it yourselfer. I'd like to know what the correct configuration is for a double sink, with disposer, and dishwasher. I think the dishwasher is supposed to connect to the piping, before the trap? Can some one either explain it or direct me to a photo of the correct way to connect all the piping? Thanks
