I am in need of a taller commode. The one I have sits low. Can taller ones be found at places like lowes or home depot? Can you advise me of a comfortable one for someone who has undergone back surgery. Thanks in advance for your help. I really do need some advice.

Look for ones that are called ADA-compliant (Americans with Disabilities Act). I believe these have a bowl rim height of least 16" tall. They are widely available and you should be able to either buy them at the big box stores or have them do a special order.

Lowes/HD also carry "chair height" commodes, which are 17 inches tall. You can also get an extension to raise the seat even higher. I installed one yesterday for a handicapped person.

thanks for the commode advice. I'm headed that way today.

When my home was built I had them put in one handicapped stool because of our advanced ages. One of the better decisions I have made. I should have had them installed in the other two bathrooms also.
