REALLY basic question

| Sorry, never done any plumbing myself but I'm just about to remodel my bathroom and have a question about shower valves/faucet trim.
I see a lot of shower/bath trim combinations I like - a lot more than I see of "shower only" kits. Can I just use these for my shower, discarding the bath faucet and capping off the tub filler pipe/opening at the bottom?
Thanks in advance,

| I don't see why not, using the right size threaded plug. |

| I capped off the shower by soldering in a piece of pipe and a cap. You can do the same for the spout, solder or threaded. The assemblies I've seen have both built in. |

| Let me add a follow-on question: Can you cap off the shower portion of the valve and connect the shower head to the spout portion of the valve? (thereby bypassing the 2.5gal/hour limit of the shower part of the valve) |
