Gas Fired Boiler - zone problems

Have a gas fired boiler with water baseboard heat....2 zones seem to work fine, the other 2 are not....if I manually turn them on the water flows.....however, never stop....thus, it seems that the thermostat is not able to turn on the flow....there is a gadget connected to the pump/valve that looks like might be a transformer.....could this be the problem ? Since water flows when turned on manually, and the thermostat is not able to turn on the flow, then could it be that the thermostat is controlled somehow by this transformer ???

The zone valves are controlled by a low voltage (24 v) relay. The zone values themselves are line voltage (120 volts)

However because you say 2 valves are not working - it leads me to believe that the relay that controls the valves is bad.

Trace the wires from the zone valve back to a gray? box. This is probably the relay for those two zones.

If you're not familiar with electricty call an HVAC guy.
