Question about shower faucets

Posted by stayn2busy (My Page) on

We are building and I've got to purchase the shower faucets for the rough in plumbing. In the master shower I would like to have an adjustable hand held shower as well as the standard mounted shower head. Can these be purchased separately or do they have to be purchased as a "unit". Also, are the valves independent of each other or is there a certain valve that will regulate both heads? Thanks!

RE: Question about shower faucets

Personally, I think for looks alone, you ought to buy both from the same mfr. But as long as you have a way to divert between the two, it doesn't make much difference.

We put in a Hansgrohe setup for a fixed head and handshower. Main reason was that their Thermobalance III thermostatic valve has a single control that does the temperature and diversion. It's intended to run a tub filler, showerhead, and sprays/handshower. And you have to pipe it slightly differently to use only the latter 2 (can't just plug the tub outlet). Has worked great for 3.5 years and it's a very clean look.

I'm sure there are others out there that will do the trick in a similar fashion.

One other thing to keep in mind is that most sell the rough valve and trim separately. You'll need the rough valve earlier.
