New faucet water tastes weird

Hi. I posted this on the Kitchen forum, too, but thought someone here may be able to answer our problem. We just remodeled our kitchen and bought two new Price-Pfister faucets. The prep sink water tastes great, like our normal water, and the main sink water has a terrible, plastic-y, chemical-y taste. What would cause this? It's been running for three weeks now and isn't getting better. Do we call the plumber? Do we go back to the store where we bought the big faucet? We're at a loss...but we don't want to make coffee with this water taste now.

Did you have any of the supply lines changed during the remodel or only the faucets?

I have this same problem. We did a major addition with a main kithchen sink and a prep sink. We didn't get the prep sink hooked up for about a year. When we did the water tasted chemically--we really noticed it in coffee. We ran the water but didn't drink it for a long time. It seems to generally taste okay now, but recently we used the water in a butter bell, and the butter tasted terribly metallic. I am wondering what it could be. I originally guessed that it might be from flux in the pipe. But I would think that that would be gone by now. The fixture is a Hans Grohe kitchen sink pull-out spot type. Any thoughts on what could be causing this. All other faucets in house taste fine.

This is just a wild guess (or two), but maybe you're tasting rubber grit because the supply lines were installed too tightly. If they are plastic, I might replace them with metal braided ones anyway. While you change them, see if any pipe dope was used on the threads. If so, wipe it all off. Supply lines don't need pipe dope. When you replace the supply lines, hand tighten the upper/sink side. For the side that connects to the shut-off valve, dab a tiny bit of plumber's grease on the outer threads only, then snug it up with your fingers, and then turn it 1/4 more with a wrench. Turn the water back on, look for leaks, and tighten just a bit more if you see anything.

Also, unscrew the aerator from the end of the faucet and clean out any grit that's in there. Reinstall and do a taste test.

Our HOA pool clubhouse had to be re-piped because of a frozen pipe burst. When we started to use the clubhouse again I took a drink from the water fountain. Tasted terrible. Took a while to put it together, but I concluded it was solvent cement from the PVC piping. Had to let it run for quite a while to rinse the taste out, but, after a while it was OK. May not have been your problem, but may help someone else.
