Hi, can an existing drain in a tub be easily replaced? We had the bathroom re-done completely and I hate the new tub drain that I chose. Would love to replace it. thanks.

do you have acces to teh under/back side of the tub? if so then yes it can. if not, then you will have to cut open a ceiling/wall to do it.

The post says they want to change it because they are not happy with the drain that they chose. The waste & overflow kit underneath the tub is common to all tubs and the only optional parts are the metal overflow cover, the Tub drain Basket and the stopper mechanism. All of these parts can be purchased separately in a tub "Trim Out Kit" and they can easily be changed from inside the tub without requiring any access to the pipes under the tub. The overflow cover is held in place by two oval head or flat head machine screws that can easily be removed with a common screwdriver. If you have a lever waste handle on the overflow cover to control the stopper, once the screws are removed the stopper assembly can easily be lifted up and out. If you have a lift & turn stopper or a toe touch stopper, the stopper is screwed into a female threaded hole in the cross at the bottom of the tub drain basket. Once the stopper is removed the drain basket can be unscrewed with a tub basket wrench, then a new basket is inserted and screwed in place with the basket wrench. The basket wrenches are available at any local hardware or home supply store ranging from about $8 to $30, depending upon which one you choose.

LP, Can baskets be removed/replaced (from above) in old tubs when there's no "cross-hair" ("basket"?) to grab on to in the drain? Just wondering, thanks.
