Seems overpriced. I wouldn't go smaller than 3/4 HP, regardless.

I installed the compact version of the evolution in my home last year. It was a huge difference from the elderly badger I replaced. I think you'll like it. Sounds like maybe you just got a lemon with your old one. Don't know that I've ever had anything other than an insikerator, never had much trouble with them.

I don't recall if I could on my old Badger but on the Evolution I can remove the sink baffle easily to clean it. This is also handy when something falls in there that needs to be retrieved.
