How to replace this faucent cartridge?

What is the best method and tools to remove the outer trim nut (highlighted in green) to access the cartridge retention nut (red) in order to replace the cartridge (blue)?
The outer trim nut does not seem to have any flats to wrench on. How does one get a grip on it without marring the finish?
Backstory: I ordered and received a replacement cartridge for this kitchen faucet, but there are no instructions. I'm mechanically inclined enough but am not a plumber by trade and don't know all the tricks.
The faucet is a Sigma Single Lever Kitchen Faucet
