Tankless hw heater for new 3 story house?

Posted by sitelifer (My Page) on

We are building a 25 ft wide home, the master bath is on the 3rd floor, other bedrooms on 1st floor and kitchen on 2nd.

Our plans call for tankless but after reading this forum I wonder if the expense will be worth it.

Any advise would be appreciated.

The US DOE has some worksheets for comparing water heating expense with different equipment using your current utility rates and the cost of the equipment. It will almost surely show that you can do it with a tank for less money until the break point at about 20 years. You should be able to find the worksheets easily.

What is your climate like. If hot (and humid) a heat-pump water heater might be good and might be integrated with your HVAC.

We are in New Jersey by the ocean- very humid in the summer.
