Sealant choices

I'm getting ready to reconnect the hot water heater, which had to be moved to get access to furnace plumbing hidden behind it. For ease of future disconnection (heater is 20+ years old) I sweated in a couple of copper unions.

Do the sealing surfaces inside the union need any sealant or is it just metal-on-metal? With four decades of experience wrenchin' on vehicles, I've got just about every 'flavor' of sealant known to mankind: "sillycone" RTV, Permatex #1 and 2, Hylomar (an anerobic RTV), high temp Permatex for diffs and gearboxes, copper head gasket compound, pipe dope, PFE paste, 3M 5200, you name it....

No sealant please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The union acts much the same as flare fittings. Pressure at the union is minor by comparison to that of hydraulic brake lines.
