The ultimate discharge for the TPR on my new WH install is a few feet to one side of the unit.

I was originally planning to run a section of pipe straight down from the valve and then make a 90-degree bend (with slight downward slope for gravity drain) over to another 90-degree bend at the output location. It occurred to me that if I rotated the valve so the output was near horizontal, I'd have fewer bends and a straighter shot to the output...but I've never seen it done this way.

Has anyone installed a TPR with the output on the horizontal (or just below horizontal actually)? It doesn't seem to contradict any code I've found, but much of "compliance" seems to piggyback "convention".
