Changing sink from existing vanity?

I have a vanity that has a copper sink in it. The sink looks horrible stained and discolored everywhere. It even has a dirty penny smell to it. Not sure if this is what all copper sinks are like, or is it a really copper sink, or should it have been sealed? I have no idea. I would like to just change out the sink, can this be done the sink itself measures 17 1/4" and it is an overmount sink.

Sure, if you find a sink that fits the hole. Otherwise, maybe it's time to just treat yourself to a new vanity, too. That's probably easier than trying to find the right sink.
