 o
tub control replacement question

Posted by msbatt (My Page) on

I've been having trouble turning the hot water completely off in my tub for some time now, and night before last I resorted to using a pair of channellocks to turn it. Now, I can't turn it back on---the control knob just spins.

The knob is held on my a center screw, which I've removed. This allows me to take off the knob itself, but there's still a decorative sleeve covering the spindle, and I can figure out how to remove it. I figure once I get down to the actual spindle I'll know what to do, but now---???

Since the sleeve just spins but won't pull off the spindle, should I try to pry it loose? Perhaps with a pair of screwdrivers, or a pickle fork?

HELP!!!

brand? model?

you can probably go to the manufacturers web site and look up the model and find a parts diagram. that will help disassemble the thing and get the replacement parts.

The sleeves usually spin off. But it is possible that it got tightened too much and went past the end of the threads. If you pull slightly while turning counterclock-wise you might get the thing rethreaded.
