breaking silicone between sink & granite counter

I have a top mounted cast iron sink on a granite countertop. There are no clips holding it in but the flange has a silicone sealer between it and the granite. I have tried cutting the silicon with a sharp knife and tried to dissolve it with various solvents but without success. I am afraid to use force to push it up from the bottom for fear of cracking the granite. The reason I want to replace it is because it is pink and we want black or stainless steel. Is there any way I could dissolve the silicon?
