Water pressure problem

We have recently moved into a house that was recently remodeled by our landlord. The remodeling included installation of new water lines throughout the house installed by a plumber. The water supply is municipal. When we first moved in the water pressure was great but after a few weeks we noticed that when we turn the water on anywhere in the house the pressure is strong for a few seconds then drops rapidly until there is only a trickle, then it will gradually build up to a good steady stream with no more problem. We have also found that if the water is on at one faucet we can turn any other faucet on and there is no drop in pressure. Our landlord believes there is a problem with the municipal water supply. If anyone has any ideas for diagnosing this problem I would appreciate the input. I don't want to involve the municipality until I am reasonably sure that the problem is on their side of the water meter.

The municipal water authority should be happy to test the water pressure at your meter. That's step one, to make sure you have the correct pressure at the meter.

More than likely there is a PRV (pressure reducing valve) in your home at the water service entrance. That valve can have a problem. There is a screen in the valve that can get clogged.

To prove that, you get a water pressure gauge that will screw onto a hose bib (similar to the picture) and monitor the pressure. If the pressure in the home is correct then you hand the problem off to your landlord.

Actually, the landlord should be doing all of this.

I for one am about ready to geather my marbles and move on. Since houzz alows professionals to permote,spammers are drawn like flies. I'm all for alowing pros to advertise in exchange for their wisdom but admin needs to be vigialant in chasing off spammers.That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. (:

I think Lurker is correct about letting those responsible worry with it. If the tenant was a plumber I could see it,but that's not the case if op has to ask for help.
