Expansion Tank... what would you do?

Moved into old house. Not familar with the plumbing system yet.

We have a 3 year old water heater. A tee is installed close for a expansion tank but it is just capped off. No tank.

We have a check valve at the meter.

I monitored the pressure for 8 hours today and it was steady at 55-60psi. I havent noticed any other symptoms of high pressure.

Not knowing what the previous owners rationale is for having a plugged tee instead of a tank installed I am hesitant in installing one until I actually see symptoms. I do understand we have a "closed" system and techinically need a tank but I am curious what you would do in this case....

If it aint broke dont fix it is my mantra, does it ring true in this case?
