Hi,

Our water softener was clogged with salt blocks so we took out all of the salt, flushed it with hot water but now the water isn't going out of the softener at all, the clear plastic tubing is filled with brown water. We were told it might be a gasket problem and have been waiting on the part for about 5 days since Sears only does internet parts ordering now. In the mean time my toilets and bathtubs are stained brown and we're brushing our teeth and washing our hair in the kitchen sink where the filtered water tap is, kind of like camping :-)

Just wanting a 2nd opinion, is this $20 gasket a known culprit to the water softener not working/putting brown water into our pipes or should we get a professional out here/replace the darn thing at once?
