| My sister has an older house and every time the city cleans out the sewer line in front of her house, water blows back out of the toilet. I don't see a vent pipe anywhere around the house unless it is vented to the attic. If there is no vent pipe would this cause the problem? |

| Problem isn't a lack of a vent. She needs to install a 'backwater valve' on the building drain for her house. A backwater valve is a large 'check valve' that allows waste to flow out from the house, but closes to keep waste from flowing back in. |
