Supply Valve Advice Please

I need some direction here. Need to replace my lavatory and toilet supply valves; I have 1/2" rigid copper inlet (1/2" ID x 9/16" OD) with compression fitting. All I can find in my little town (lumber yard) reads " 5/8" (1/2" nominal) ". Will this work or do I need to go to a big town and get a different size?

That is the correct one.
1/2" refers to the internal diameter of the copper tube.
5/8" refers to the outside diameter.

Randy, thank you. I am still skeptical because the actual OD of the copper is 9/16" , not 5/8". Maybe the outside taper on the ferrel will take up the slack?
